Dear Colleagues, dear members, dear Friends,
As the new chairman of the Board of Directors of IATM, I would like to introduce myself
to the other BoD and committee members that I didn’t meet yet.
I started as a Tour Manager in 2000, after my retirement as a Navy Officer.
I am Tourmanager/Tourguide certified by the Flemish Tourist Board and have been a member of IATM since 2004.
In March 2015 I became chairman of the Belgian Country group and in 2016 it became a fully grown region,
which means that we passed the mark of 40 members.
Consequently, as Chair of a region, I became a Member of the Board of directors in 2016.
During the last BoD meeting in Oostende, I replaced the Acting Chair, Mustafa Arikan, who resigned.
Ahead lies a heavy task; we face a number of challenges. We live in a fast changing world and it is
sometimes difficult to keep up with the pace of these changes, especially in the tourist sector.
Also, over recent years, the number of IATM – Active members has been dropping and we need to find
a way to reverse this. (we cannot look around the problem). Less members means less income,
which is why Central Office had to downsize.
I hope I can count on everyone’s support to deal with the future challenges we face as an International Association.
It is important that all the members of the Board of Directors do their utmost best to be present at the Taiwan BoD’s meeting
or at least have a committee member representing them.
As for the Committee members themselves, I hope they will also do their best to attend the Taiwan AGM,
and encourage their members to join us in Taiwan, for everyone it is an exceptional occasion.
I look forward to meeting you all personally and to make your acquaintance.
